2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Poor Reception

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a distinct game identity.

The president expressed that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to better meet community desires.

Trend of Key Recruitment

This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the full content from the president's communication:

Dear Team—

I know you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a clearer brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our players.

Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. Following several months of talks, Ben starts with us on next week.

Ben’s management and expertise in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having spent the recent years producing and leading some of the most recognizable series in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in greeting Ben soon. We are all eager to keep seeing the development of the game in the time to come.

David

Background of the New Head

Brinkman presently holds the role of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in various development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Information and Vision

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year alongside a public demo. Initially, 31st Union presented the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the category."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary reads. "Challenge the competition with unique powers, challenges, and obstacles that evolve every match. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Or aim high, put it on the line, and trust your group can earn top ranking? The choice is in your hands."

The game lacks an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but players can expect more updates as development progresses.
